Virus & malware removal in Brisbane
Pop-ups that won't go away, a browser that keeps redirecting, or a phone call from “Microsoft” you now regret — these are fixable, and panicking doesn't help.
Geek Alert removes viruses, malware and browser hijacks from Windows and Mac computers across Brisbane, on-site or remotely. We clean it up, work out how it got in, and show you what to watch for next time.
- Same-day help in most cases
- We check it's actually gone
- No antivirus subscription pushed on you
What an infected computer usually looks like
You don't need to be certain before you call. If any of this sounds familiar, it's worth a look:
- Pop-ups and ads appearing outside the browser
- Your homepage or search engine changed on its own
- The computer suddenly running hot, loud or very slowly
- Security warnings demanding you call a phone number
- Friends receiving emails or messages you didn't send
- Files renamed, or a note demanding payment to unlock them
- Programs you don't remember installing
- Windows Security or your antivirus turned off and won't turn back on
If you're seeing a ransom demand, stop. Don't pay, and don't restart the computer repeatedly — that can make things worse. Unplug it from the internet and call us on 0401 114 166. We'll tell you honestly what's recoverable before you spend a cent.
What we actually do
“Running a scan” is the easy part, and it's not the part that matters. A proper clean-up is about making sure nothing survives the restart.
- Find out how it got in. A dodgy download, a fake update, an email attachment, or someone talked you into granting remote access. Without this, it comes back.
- Remove it properly. Including the startup entries, scheduled tasks and browser extensions that most one-click tools leave behind.
- Check what it touched. Browser profiles, saved passwords, mail rules quietly forwarding your email somewhere else.
- Secure the accounts that matter. If credentials were exposed, changing them in the right order matters — email first, because that's how everything else gets reset.
- Patch the hole. Updates, built-in protection switched back on, and a plain-English rundown of what to look out for.
Scam calls and remote-access fraud
A good share of what we see isn't a virus at all. Someone rang, said they were from Telstra, Microsoft or the bank, and talked the person into installing remote-access software. The computer is fine — the problem is what the caller was able to see and do while they were in it.
That's a different job: remove their software, check for anything left behind, then work through accounts and banking with you. If money moved, your bank's fraud line is the first call and we'll say so rather than charging you to find out.
